Brad Paisley receives home state honor

Brad Paisley is getting recognition from his home state.  The country star has been named a Distinguished West Virginian.

WOWK TV says officials from the Governor's Office and the West Virginia Music Hall of Fame met with the singer prior to his concert in Charleston Saturday night to make the presentation.  The Distinguished West Virginian Award is the state's highest honor.

Paisley has strong ties to both the state and its musical heritage.  He was born and raised in Glen Dale, West Virginia, near Wheeling.  He was still in junior high school when he launched his career as a weekly performer on a radio show akin to the Grand Ole Opry.

Brad stayed with the show for eight years, and was the youngest performer ever inducted into the Jamboree USA Hall of Fame.
